Drivers Ed Brake

Installing the BEST BRAKE on the drivers / students side of the vehicle.

Installation  Instructions Drivers Side.

Drivers side, you start the cable on the drivers side. So the ball at the end of the inner cable is used on the drivers side.

Attaching the cable to drivers side brake pedal you have 2 options.

Drill a small hole through the cars brake pedal, the metal section, the diameter of the shaft of the ball just below the ball.

Then drill a hole through the rubber pad the diameter of the ball.
This way the ball sits inside the rubber pad and does not interfere with the foot when pressing down on the brake pedal.

This method works well if you have a lot of space between the pedal and the pulley that you will mount to the floor / firewall.

If you find that your vehicle does not have a lot of space here you are facing a problem very common with our competitors brake pedals. Not to worry we have the solution.

Our design of clamp can be installed onto the metal arm of the brake pedal in either the up of down facing position. It is best to install it in the up facing position, so that the L shape bracket is higher than the surface of the pedal pad. Make sure that you position the bracket high enough up the pedal that the toe of the student / drivers foot has enough clearance.

Use the supplied bracket, place around the brake pedal shaft, and use that to attach the cable.

Install the pulley on the hinge bracket below the pedal on the floor / firewall, making sure you have a good angle and that when the cable is pulled the brake pedal travels all the way to its maximum travel position. It is very important that you have the maximum distance of travel so that when you do brake in an emergence you can exert maximum braking force. If your pulley is installed too close to the pedal it could result in less than maximum braking and that could result in an accident.

It is best to install the pulley bracket in such a way that the bracket on the pedal if you are using the bracket, or the arm of the pedal is to the side of the pulley mounted to the floor / firewall. There must be no contact between the pedal arm or pedal bracket or pedal pad and the pulley or pulley bracket.

Look at the above picture, the cable is slack, you can see that the end of the cable is aligned to the left of the left edge of the pulley and the direction of pull is a straight line. You can also see that the bolts securing the bracket to the pedal arm have the head of the bolt on the pulley side and that if you press the brake pedal down to its lowest position there will be no contact between the pedal and the components attached to the pedal and the components attached to the floor / firewall.

This is very important, should you install this incorrectly it will result in the the brakes being prevented from operating as designed by the vehicle manufacturer and this can result in an accident.

Make sure that you bolt this pulley to the floor securely; if it is not secure your braking system will not work or may fail in an emergency. Use grade 8 hardware (Lowes / home depot / ace hardware) with locking nuts.

It is very important to understand that you are responsible for the installation, the safety of your vehicle and your occupants as well as other people and they property depend on it. You may have to defend your installation in a court of law if you do not install the brake system properly and if you fail to maintain it.

Cable, pulleys and pulley bolts must to replaced yearly.
